Refreshing coffee and tonic cocktail

Surviving a hot summer day is much more pleasant with a cool, delicious drink in hand. And you really shouldn't push the coffee to the farthest corner of the shelf! Here's a simple recipe for refreshing yourself at home and enjoying the discoveries of coffee flavors together - without running to the nearest coffee shop ;)

For two servings of the drink, you will need:

  • 18g of coffee beans, ground to medium coarseness

  • of a filter coffee machine such as a Chemex and a suitable filter

  • 250ml of hot water for brewing coffee

  • 300ml (or 1 can) of chilled tonic

  • ice cubes

Preparation process:

  • heat the water

  • weigh yourself and grind the coffee

  • place ice cubes in a Chemex container (set a few cubes aside)

  • place the filter on the Chemex container and add the ground coffee to it

  • start brewing coffee with hot (but not boiling) water:

    1. first pour enough to soak the coffee chips and keep it like that for about 30 seconds

    2. then continue to pour the rest of the water over the coffee grounds in slow and light circular motions. Avoid direct water contact with the paper filter

  • prepare 2 cool glasses with a few more ice cubes in them

  • pour about 150ml of tonic into each of the glasses

  • After all the coffee has dripped into the Chemex, remove the paper filter with the chips

  • pour coffee into glasses

  • enjoy :)

PRO tip: Before use, the Chemex filter should be run over with hot water to wash away the taste and smell of the paper. This step is performed after the filter has been placed in the container, but before the coffee has been added. This water is removed from the Chemex container and only then is the coffee poured into the filter for brewing.
